Eyin Hui-shuo

Japanese: 鄂隠慧奯 - がくいんえかつ

1366-1425 A monk from the Nanboku-cho to Muromachi period.
Born in the 5th year of Jōji (Shōhei 21). He became a monk following Zekkai Nakatsu of the Rinzai sect. He trained in Ming (China) for 10 years, and after returning to Japan, he inherited the Zekkai teachings. In the 21st year of the Oei era, he was appointed head priest of the Rokuon-in pagoda, and later also served as the abbot of Tenryū-ji Temple. He fell out with the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimochi, and retired to Gyūkō-an in Tosa (Kochi Prefecture). He died on February 18th, 32nd year of the Oei era. He was 60 years old. He was born in Chikugo (Fukuoka Prefecture). His posthumous name was Butsue Shozoku Kokushi.

貞治(じょうじ)5=正平(しょうへい)21年生まれ。臨済(りんざい)宗の絶海中津にしたがって出家。明(みん)(中国)で10年修行し,帰国後,絶海の法をつぐ。応永21年鹿苑院(ろくおんいん)塔主(たっす)に任じられ,のち天竜寺住持もかねた。将軍足利義持と不和になり,土佐(高知県)の吸江庵(ぎゅうこうあん)に隠退。応永32年2月18日死去。60歳。筑後(ちくご)(福岡県)出身。諡号(しごう)は仏慧正続国師。
