International New Education Fellowship

…In 1898, French educational reformer JE Demolins (1852-1907) wrote a book entitled “New Education” in which he emphasized the need to reform the secondary education curriculum and to emphasize students’ independent activities. Around the same time, new theories and practices were developed by British C. Reddy, German H. Lietz, and American J. Dewey, and new education became a movement. In 1921, the International League for New Education (International New Education Fellowship) was formed as an organization for the international new education movement. In Japan, just after the Russo-Japanese War, Kyoto Imperial University professor Tomeri Tanimoto (1867-1946) created a stir in the education world by explaining that Japan also needed to learn from the new education in Europe and America. …

…1898年にフランスの教育改革者ドモランJ.E.Demolins(1852‐1907)が《新教育L’éducation nouvelle》と題する著作で，中等教育のカリキュラムの改革と生徒の自主的活動を重視すべきことを強調し，さらにほぼ同時期にイギリスのC.レディ，ドイツのH.リーツ，アメリカのJ.デューイらによって新しい理論や実践がなされたことで，新教育は一つの運動となった。1921年には国際的な新教育運動のための組織として国際新教育連盟Ligue Internationale pour l’Éducation nouvelle(International New Education Fellowship)も結成されるにいたった。　日本では日露戦争直後に京都帝国大学教授の谷本富（たにもととめり）(1867‐1946)がヨーロッパ，アメリカにおける新教育に学んで日本にも新教育運動が必要とされることを説いて，教育界に波紋をひきおこした。…
