The part of a vertebrate's body excluding the limbs. Also called the trunk. The trunk is further divided into the head, neck, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, and tail. The limbs are the hands and feet that extend from the trunk, and are divided into the forelimbs (upper limbs) and hind limbs (lower limbs). Humans are characterized by a smaller ratio of trunk to lower limbs compared to other primates.
