Platinic acid (English spelling)

Japanese: 白金酸 - はっきんさん（英語表記）platinic acid

Platinum(IV) oxide tetrahydrate, PtO ₂ ･4H ₂ O, can be written as H ₂ [Pt(OH) ₆ ], so it is called platinic acid (officially hexahydroxoplatinic(IV) acid). It can also be written as Pt(OH) ₄ ･2H ₂ O, so it is also called platinum(IV) hydroxide, but the exact structure is unknown. It can be obtained by adding an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to an aqueous solution of chloroplatinic acid(IV) H ₂ [PtCl ₆ ], which is produced when platinum is dissolved in aqua regia, and then boiling for a long time and neutralizing with acetic acid.

酸化白金(IV)4水和物PtO₂･4H₂OはH₂[Pt(OH)₆]と書くことができるので白金酸(正式にはヘキサヒドロキソ白金(IV)酸)と呼ばれる。また，これはPt(OH)₄･2H₂Oと書くこともできるので水酸化白金(IV)とも呼ばれるが，正確な構造は不明である。白金を王水に溶かしたときにできる塩化白金酸(IV)H₂[PtCl₆]の水溶液に水酸化ナトリウムNaOH水溶液を加え，長時間煮沸した後，酢酸で中和すると得られる。
