Son Chin-t'ae (English spelling)

Korean historian and folklorist. His pen name was Nam Cang. He was born in Seoul. He graduated from the Department of History, Faculty of Letters, Waseda University in 1927. From 1933 onwards, he was a lecturer at Yeonhui and Bosung Professional Colleges, a professor at Seoul National University in 1945, president of the College of Education and the College of Literature and Sciences at Seoul National University in 1949, and was taken to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea during the Korean War in 1950, where he is still missing. His view of history was a new nationalism that aimed not only for the development of the nation, but for all of its members to be happy. His main works were An Outline of the History of the Korean Nation (1948) and Outline of National History. In April 1932, he founded the Korean Folklore Society together with Song Seok-ha and others.

朝鮮の歴史･民俗学者。号は南滄。ソウルの出身。1927年早稲田大学文学部史学科を卒業。33年以降，延禧･普成両専門学校講師，45年ソウル大学校教授，49年ソウル大学校師範大学長，文理大学長を歴任し，50年朝鮮戦争で朝鮮民主主義人民共和国に連行後，消息不明。彼の史観は民族の発展だけでなく，その全構成員がすべて幸福になることを目ざす新民族主義で，主著は《韓国民族史概論》(1948)，《国史大要》。1932年4月宋錫夏（そうしやくか）らとともに朝鮮民俗学会を創設。
