A festival for the gods of Sono and Han, who were enshrined in the Imperial Household Ministry of Heian-kyo. Sono and Han were here before the construction of Heian-kyo, and were enshrined there without being moved due to a divine revelation that they would protect the emperor. In the Engishiki Shinmeicho, one of the three gods enshrined in the Imperial Household Ministry, it is listed as "Sono Shrine and Han Shrine," and both are large shrines supported by the government, and they received offerings at festivals such as Myojin, Tsukimi, and Niiname. Han appears to be the son of Otoshi no Kami in the first volume of the Kojiki, but Sono no Kami is Omononushi no Kami, and Han no Kami is actually two gods, Oonamuchi no Kami and Sukunahikona no Kami, and these gods are said to protect against epidemics.
