Natrolite (English spelling)

Japanese: ソーダ沸石 - そーだふっせき（英語表記）natrolite

A type of zeolite. It is needle-shaped or rhombic prism-shaped, close to a square prism. It occurs in the voids of basalt, alkali basalt, and tuff of these rocks, together with analcime, thomsonite, mesozoite, and gonardite. It also occurs as a vein in metamorphosed basic tuff associated with serpentine, together with analcime and pectolite. It is also found as the latest crystallization in pegmatites of nepheline syenite. The name comes from its chemical composition.

沸石の一種。針状ないし正方柱に近い斜方柱状をなす。玄武岩、アルカリ玄武岩またこれらの岩質の凝灰岩の空隙(くうげき)中に、方沸石、トムソン沸石、中沸石、ゴンナルド沸石などと産する鉱物である。また蛇紋岩に伴われる変成した塩基性凝灰岩中の脈として、方沸石、ペクトライトなどに伴って産する。ほかに霞石閃長(かすみいしせんちょう)岩のペグマタイト中に最末期晶出物としてみられる。名称は化学成分による。
