This is a condition in which muscle tissue is severely damaged and replaced by fibrous scar tissue due to impaired blood flow to the muscle, causing the muscle to lose elasticity and limit joint movement, resulting in deformity. Also called Volkmann's contracture, it is often caused by elbow joint trauma in children, especially when a supracondylar fracture of the humerus is caused by binding with a plaster cast. In other words, when a supracondylar fracture of the humerus occurs, swelling of the joint becomes quite significant over time, but the swelling increases even more when reduction manipulation is performed, especially if this is repeated several times.
