Japanese: 終身定期金契約 - しゅうしんていききんけいやく

A contract that takes effect when one of the parties promises to provide money or other items to the other party or a third party periodically until the death of the other party, the other party, or a third party (Civil Code Article 689). It is a contract made to support another person or as a way to pay for the transfer of property, and can also be used as a method of paying damages in the event of bodily injury, but has not been used much in Japan so far. Life annuities are calculated on a daily basis (Article 690). If the annuity debtor fails to pay the annuity or fails to perform other obligations, the other party may demand the return of the principal of the annuity (Article 691).

当事者の一方が自己，相手方または第三者の死亡に至るまで，定期に金銭その他の物を相手方または第三者に給付することを約することによってその効力を生ずる契約をいう(民法689条)。他人を扶養するためや財産の譲渡の対価を支払う方法として行われる契約であり，身体への被害を生じた場合の損害賠償の支払方法としても用いうるが，日本では今までのところあまり行われていない。終身定期金は，日割で計算する(690条)。定期金債務者が定期金の給付を怠った場合またはその他の義務を履行しないときは，相手方は定期金の元本の返還を請求することができる(691条)。
