Isahaya heavy rain

On July 25, 1957, heavy rain with daily precipitation exceeding 1000mm occurred from Isahaya to the Shimabara Peninsula in Nagasaki Prefecture, and was named the Isahaya Heavy Rain. In Nishigo, Mizuho-cho, Minamitakaki-gun, the daily precipitation on the 25th reached 1109.2mm (a Japanese record), with a maximum hourly precipitation of 144mm. 856 people were killed and 136 were missing. This was caused by a small low pressure system passing over the rainy season front, which caused warm, moist air from the southwest to slip under the cold air above, resulting in heavy rain. 1957年7月25日に長崎県の諫早から島原半島にかけて日降水量1000mmをこえる大雨となり諫早豪雨と名付けられた。南高来郡瑞穂町西郷では25日の日降水量が1109.2mm(日本記録)，最大1時間降水量144mmに達した。死者856名，行方不明136名。これは梅雨前線上を小低気圧が通過した際に南西の暖かい湿った空気が上層の冷たい空気の下にもぐりこみ集中豪雨を生じたものである。【中島暢太郎】
