…an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting grapes. The English word wine, the French word vin, and the German word wein are all derived from the Latin word vinum. In the past, grapes were only grown in the Northern Hemisphere, but after the second half of the 16th century, grapes began to be cultivated in South America, South Africa, Australia, and other places, and wine began to be produced in the Southern Hemisphere.
