Song Dynasty Art (English: Song Dynasty Art)

Japanese: 宋代美術 - そうだいびじゅつ（英語表記）Sòng dài měi shù

The Song dynasty (960-1279) is divided into the Northern Song dynasty (960-1127) and the Southern Song dynasty (1127-1279), and the stylistic changes in art in general show developments that make this periodization applicable. Painting occupied a leading position in the art world during the Song dynasty. As described as the calligraphy of the Six Dynasties, the poetry of the Tang dynasty, and the paintings of the Song dynasty, the paintings of the Song dynasty are highly regarded in the history of Chinese painting. Three phenomena can be pointed out as characteristics of the paintings of the Song dynasty: the remarkable development of ink painting techniques, the shift from the predominant subject of Taoist and Buddhist figure paintings to landscape paintings, and the increase in literati consciousness among both painters and viewers.

宋代(960‐1279)は北宋時代(960‐1127)と南宋時代(1127‐1279)とに二分されるが，美術全般の様式変遷もこの時代区分を適用しうる展開を示している。　宋代の美術界で主導的な地位を占めたのは絵画であった。六朝の書，唐の詩，宋の画と評されるように，中国絵画史のなかで最高の評価を得た宋代の絵画を特徴づける要因として水墨画の手法のめざましい発達，主導的な題材の道釈人物画から山水画への移行，画家と鑑賞者の両者にみられる文人意識の増大という三つの現象を指摘できる。
