Uda Mountains - Udasanchi

This mountain range occupies Uda County in the central-eastern part of Nara Prefecture. It is bounded by the Yamato Plateau (Kasagi Mountains) to the north, the Ryumon Mountains to the west, the Median Tectonic Line to the south, and the mountain ranges on the border with Mie Prefecture to the east. Geographically, it is divided into the Kuchiuda Basin in the west and the Okuuda Mountains in the east. The Kuchiuda Basin consists of small basins such as Haibara, Matsuyama, and Furuichiba, and is surrounded by small hills with a relative height of less than 100 meters. The Okuuda Mountains are a tilted massif, with mountain ridges of over 1000 meters such as Takamiyama and Mitakeyama running east to west at the southern end, and the Muro volcanic group volcanic rocks occupying a large area in the north, where you can see strange sights such as Byobu Rock, Kabuto Rock, and Yoroi Rock.

奈良県中東部、宇陀郡を占める山地。北は大和(やまと)高原（笠置(かさぎ)山地）、西は竜門(りゅうもん)山地、南は中央構造線、東は三重県境の山地で限られる。地形上、西部の口宇陀(くちうだ)盆地と東部の奥宇陀山地に分けられる。口宇陀盆地は榛原(はいばら)、松山、古市場などの小盆地からなり、比高100メートル以下の小丘陵で囲まれる。奥宇陀山地は傾動地塊で、南端は高見山、三峰山など1000メートル以上の山嶺(さんれい)が東西に続き、北部は室生(むろう)火山群の噴出岩が広い面積を占め、屏風(びょうぶ)岩、兜(かぶと)岩、鎧(よろい)岩などの奇観をみる。
