Azusa River

Japanese: 梓川 - あずさがわ
Azusa River
A river that flows through western Nagano Prefecture. It is 77 km long. It originates from Mount Yari in the Hida Mountains, flows through Kamikochi, and enters the Matsumoto Basin, where it merges with the north-flowing Narai River to form the Sai River. In the upper reaches of Kamikochi, there are many scenic spots such as Myojin Pond and Taisho Pond. Downstream, it forms a deep valley in its prime, and many power plants have been built since 1925. Among them, the three dams, Nakado Dam, Midono Dam, and Inekoki Dam, are known as the first linked dams in Japan. Downstream from the islands, it forms a wide alluvial fan in the Matsumoto Basin. The upper reaches belong to Chubu Sangaku National Park. National Route 158 (Nomugi Kaido) runs along the river.

Azusa River

This former village area is located in the center of Matsumoto City, in the mid-west of Nagano Prefecture. It is on the left bank of the Azusa River in the western part of the Matsumoto Basin. In 1955, Azusa Village and Yamato Village were merged to form Azusa-gawa Village. It was incorporated into Matsumoto City in 2005. The western half is mountainous, but the eastern half is an alluvial fan of the Azusa River, where fruit trees and vegetables are mainly grown. There are roadside gods in various places.
