Natchez (English spelling)

Japanese: ナチェズ(英語表記)Natchez
Natchez (English spelling)
A city on the Mississippi River in the southwestern tip of the state of Mississippi in the United States. It originated from Fort Rosalie, built by the French in 1716. It became a British colony in 1763, but was under Spanish rule for a time. As development in the southern part of the state progressed, a cotton-growing region was formed, and the city flourished as its central city. It declined after the Civil War, but once again became the state's central city thanks to the mining of oil and natural gas, as well as the rubber, lumber, paper, and textile industries. Population 19,460 (1990).
