The capital of Antigua and Barbuda, the smallest country in the Caribbean. Population 21,154 (1991). Located in the northwest of Antigua, it is the commercial center of the country. In the 18th century, it was an important base for the British Navy in the West Indies. Nelson served here for three years as a young man.
