Messapic language

The language of the Messapians and Iapyges, who lived in the southeastern tip of Italy before Christ. It is known from many inscriptions written in Greek characters from the 6th to 1st centuries BCE, as well as from proper nouns. It belongs to the Indo-European language family and is said to be close to Illyrian. 紀元前にイタリア南東端にいたメッサピイ人，イアピュゲス人などの言語。ギリシア文字で書かれた前6～1世紀の多くの碑文と，固有名詞などから知られる。インド＝ヨーロッパ語族に属し，イリュリア語に近いといわれる。
