Century Guild

Japanese: センチュリー･ギルド（英語表記）Century Guild

A British workshop that produced interior decoration. Founded in 1882 by Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo (1851-1942), S. Image, HP Horne and others, inspired by the ideas of Ruskin and W. Morris and the resulting St. George's Guild and Morris & Co., the company was a driving force behind the Arts and Crafts Movement, with the aim of producing products "made by artists, not merchants." As a coterie group, it was relatively conservative in opposition to Morris's socialist tendencies, and instead aimed naively at recreating the medieval production system.

室内装飾品を製作したイギリスの工房。1882年，マックマードArthur Heygate Mackmurdo(1851‐1942)，S.イメージ，H.P.ホーンらが，ラスキンやW.モリスの主張と，その結果であるセント･ジョージズ･ギルド，モリス商会に刺激されて組織したもの。〈商人ではなく芸術家による〉製品を目的としてアーツ･アンド･クラフツ･ムーブメントの推進力となる。同人的な集団として，モリスの社会主義的傾向に対して比較的保守的であり，むしろ素朴に中世の生産体制の再現を志向した。
