This was an excessively decorative style that made extensive use of motifs such as ship equipment, marine products, and plant motifs, and spread throughout the country from late Gothic to the Renaissance. Its representative works include the windows of the Convent of Christ in Tomar, the Tower of Belém near Lisbon, and the Jerónimos Monastery. After that, architecture declined for a time, but in the first half of the 18th century, the Baroque Mafra Monastery and Villa was built by the German Ludwig II and his son. …
