A two-volume commentary on faith at Ise Jingu (Daijingu) created in the late Kamakura period. It is often called "Tsūkai Sankeiki" (Record of a Pilgrimage to Ise Jingu) because of the author Tsukai's name, but the correct title is "Daijingu Sankeiki" (Record of a Pilgrimage to Ise). Tsukai was the son of Onakatomi Takamichi, the shrine's chief priest, and became a monk at Renge-ji Temple (Daijingu Horaku-ji Temple) near the shrine. He trained in the Daigo Sanbo-in school of Shingon Buddhism and reached the rank of Gon Sojo (pronounced "gon-sojo"). He was well versed in the history of both Shingon Esoteric Buddhism and Ise Jingu, and wrote this book in the form of a dialogue between a pilgrim to the shrine and a monk in an attempt to harmonize the two. It is estimated to have been written around 1287 (Kōan 10), just before the establishment of Ise Shinto (Watarai Shinto) by the priests of Ise Geku.
