The name of a type of granite found on the northeastern coast of Shodoshima, Kagawa Prefecture. It is also called Fukuda Granite or Obe Granite, named after the place of origin. In the past, it was extensively quarried for the construction of Osaka Castle, and in the early Meiji period it was used as material for the Nijubashi Bridge in the construction of the Imperial Palace. Although it is medium-grained, it is prone to rusting due to oxidation, making it unsuitable for architecture or gravestones, and is mainly shipped to the Hanshin area as civil engineering material.
