Chemical formula: H ₂ Se. A colorless, foul-smelling, highly toxic gas similar to its homologue hydrogen sulfide, H ₂ S. Aluminum selenide is produced by reacting selenium and aluminum powder over a magnesium ribbon flame, and is released as a gas when water is dropped into it in a nitrogen stream. After removing the water with calcium chloride and diphosphorus pentoxide, it is cooled to liquefy, and then vaporized again to become pure. Attacks rubber stoppers and rubber tubes. Melting point: -65.7°C, boiling point: -41.3°C, specific gravity: 2.12 (-42°C). At 4°C, it dissolves at 3.77 volumes in 1 volume of water.

化学式H₂Se。同族の硫化水素H₂Sとよく似た無色で悪臭のある猛毒の気体。セレンとアルミニウム粉末をマグネシウムリボンの火を用いて反応させてセレン化アルミニウムとし，窒素気流中で水を滴下すると気体として発生する。塩化カルシウムと五酸化二リンで水分を除去した後，冷却して液化し，これを再び気化すれば純粋となる。ゴム栓，ゴム管を侵す。融点－65.7℃，沸点－41.3℃，比重2.12(－42℃)。4℃で1容の水に3.77容溶ける。
