It was registered as a World Heritage Site (natural heritage) in 1981. It is a national park established for the purpose of nature conservation in the vast savannah that spreads at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania. Serengeti means "endless plain" in Masai, and the area of this national park is 14,763 km2 . It is estimated that about 3 million animals, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, African elephants, buffalo, impala, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, and antelopes, live on the grasslands. Due to the typical savanna climate, there are rainy and dry seasons, and the wildebeests migrate to the Masai Mara National Reserve on the Kenyan side during the dry season and return there during the rainy season, repeating this cycle every year. Along with this, lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas also migrate. The great migration of these wildebeests is the biggest spectacle of the Serengeti. ◇English name: Serengeti National Park Source: Kodansha World Heritage Sites Detailed Explanation Information |
Serengeti National Park
