A Southern painter from the late Edo period. Born in Nagoya. His given name was Seisho, commonly known as Daisuke, and given the pen name Hakumei, and Takedo was a pen name. He first studied under Nagoya painter Yamada Miyatsune, and later studied under collector Kamiya Tenyu, imitating old paintings and building the foundations of his painting skills. One of his peers was Yamamoto Baiitsu. At the age of 27, he moved to Tokyo with Baiitsu, established himself as a painter, and also studied Confucianism and Japanese classics. He was a theorist, leaving behind many works such as "The Way of Painting Vajrapani" and "Takedo Painting Theory." He excelled in elegant landscape paintings, but they could not help but have a somewhat formal feel. His works include "Shinshu Kikanzu" and "Kujakuzu." His son, Chikukei, was also known as a painter. [Hoshino Suzu] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
