A theory of interest explanation put forward by the 19th century British economist N. Senior, also known as the theory of temperance. He argued that human labor and natural forces are production factors, and that temperance is necessary. Just as wages are paid for labor, profits or interest on capital, which is compensation for the postponement of pleasure and the expectation, is also a reward for not using capital unproductively despite being able to dispose of it freely, and that without such temperance, production would not take place. A. Marshall inherited this theory and popularized it. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
