…Biblical studies was established when Johann Philipp Gabler (1753-1826) separated biblical (theology) from doctrinal (dogmatic) theology as a grammatical-historical or developmental science. Today, it is divided into Old Testament studies and New Testament studies, and although there are methodological commonalities, each has undergone further specialization.
[Old Testament Studies]
Historically, it usually traces the history of the Israelites and their destiny in the ancient Near East from their origins to the Roman period, and geographically, it covers the area and its civilizations, including the Indus River in the east, the Caspian Sea coast in the north, Turkey in the west, Spain, Africa in the south, and the Arabian Peninsula.

…聖書学は，ガーブラーJohann Philipp Gabler(1753‐1826)が，文法的･歴史的ないし発生論的な学として，聖書(神)学を教理(教義)神学から独立させたことによって成立した。今日では，旧約聖書学，新約聖書学に分化し，方法論的に共通するものはあるが，それぞれで専門的深化がなされている。
