It is a school of calligraphy. Its founder was Fujiwara no Yukinari, one of the "Three Great Masters" who perfected the Japanese style. The name comes from the fact that Yukinari, who dominated the world of calligraphy at the Imperial Court at the time, renovated his residence in Momozono and built a temple, and later, his eighth-generation descendant Yukiyoshi took the name of his family. The lineage continued into the late Muromachi period, with (1) Yukinari, (2) Yukitsune, (3) Korefusa, (4) Sadazane, (5) Sadanobu, (6) Koreyuki, (7) Koretsune, (8) Gyōyoshi, (9) Tsunetomo, (10) Tsunetada, (11) Yukifusa, (12) Yukitada, (13) Yukitada, (14) Yukitoshi, (15) Yukitoyo, (16) Koretada, and (17) Yukisue. Until the 6th or 7th generation, the school maintained its reputation as a prestigious school of calligraphy and maintained a conservative, mainstream position, but after the second half of the 12th century, it lost its freshness and fell into a formal style of calligraphy due to its excessive adherence to the traditions of Yukinari.
