…It is also called Odawara Dango or Odawara Banashi. In 1590 (Tensho 18), when Toyotomi Hideyoshi attacked the Hojo clan at Odawara Castle in Sagami, a council of officers discussed countermeasures in the castle, but the discussion ended in vain. From this story, the term generally came to refer to a meeting or consultation that never reached a conclusion.
