Asbestos cement board

Also called asbestos slate. An asbestos cement product made primarily from asbestos and cement, it is used for roofs and fences. It is available in flexible boards, flat boards, soft boards, corrugated slates, etc., and is manufactured by mixing 65-85% cement and 15-35% asbestos, adding water to make a mud-like material, then sifting it out like papermaking, wrapping it around a roll, overlapping it, and compressing it from above to make a flat board. It can also be pressed with a mold to make corrugated boards. Flexible boards have a higher asbestos content to increase their strength. They are non-flammable and strong, and have a wide range of uses.

石綿スレートともいう。石綿とセメントを主原料とした石綿セメント製品の一つで，屋根や垣根などに使う。フレキシブル板，平板，軟質板，波形スレートなどがあり，製法はセメント 65～85%，石綿 15～35%を混ぜ合せ，水を加えて泥状にしたうえ，製紙と同様にすき取ってロールに巻きつけ，重ね合せて上から圧縮して平板とする。また金型で押しつけて波板をつくったりする。フレキシブル板は石綿の混合割合を増して強度を大きくしたもの。不燃性で強度もあり，用途も広くなっている。
