This stone monument was excavated in 1978 from the remains of a mountain fortress in Danyang-myeon, Danyang-gun, North Chungcheong Province, central Korea. It is about 1m long and wide, 25cm thick, and made of granite. The stone was split in two vertically, and the upper part was also broken into small pieces, but it is estimated that there were 22 lines of characters, about 20 characters per line, and about 280 characters are currently decipherable. The inscription includes the place name "Jeokseong" and the location was Jeoksan-hyeon (also called Jeokseong) in Goguryeo, so the monument is called the Jeokseong Monument. The inscription also records the names and official ranks of nine high-ranking officials of Silla, including Isabu-ji, followed by King Jinheung's granting of favors to the people of Jeokseong and the surrounding area and their solace, and finally the names and official ranks of the local officials involved in the construction of the monument. 韓国中央部の忠清北道丹陽郡丹陽面にある石碑で,1978年に山城跡で掘り出された。縦・横約1m,厚さ約25cmで,材質は花コウ岩。碑石は縦に二つに割れ,上部も細かく砕かれていたが,22行に毎行20字ほどの文字が刻記されていたと推定され,現在約280字が判読されている。碑文に〈赤城〉の地名があり,所在地は高句麗の赤山県(赤城ともいう)であったことから,碑は赤城碑と呼ばれる。碑文には新羅の伊史夫智ら9名の高官の名と官位が,つづいて真興王が赤城と周辺の民に恩典を施し彼らを慰撫したこと,最後に碑の建立に関与した地方官の名と官位とが銘記されている。
