A work on cultural philosophy and historical philosophy by the German writer Spengler. Subtitled "Outline of the Morphology of World History," the first volume was published in 1918 and the second in 1922. It considers world history as consisting of eight advanced cultures, from Egypt and Babylonia to the West, and examines the uniqueness of each culture and the process of its creation and aging, discussing the current position of Western culture and its response. It was written in response to discussions of cultural philosophy at the end of the century and the international conflicts before World War I, but it caused a great stir as it coincided with the sense of crisis in Germany and Europe after the war.
