Urabe Hiramaro - Urabe Hiramaro
807-881 A government official in the early Heian period.
Born in the second year of the Daido era. Founder of the Urabe clan. He was skilled in divination and became an Urabe in the Jingikan (official shrine office). In 838, he joined the Japanese envoys to Tang China, and after returning to Japan, he became the Taisakan (chief historian of Shinto). He later became Gon no Taijo (pronounced "gon no taijou") and also served as Miyaji (chief shrine master). He also served as Mikawa Gon no Suke (pronounced "gon no suke") and Tanba no Suke (chief shrine master). He passed away on December 5, the fifth year of the Gangyo era. He was 75 years old. He was from Izu.

大同(だいどう)2年生まれ。卜部氏の祖。亀卜(きぼく)に長じ,神祇官(じんぎかん)の卜部となる。承和(じょうわ)5年(838)遣唐使にくわわり,帰国後,神祇大史(たいさかん)。のち権大佑(ごんのたいじょう)となり宮主(みやじ)を兼任。三河権介(ごんのすけ),丹波介などをつとめた。元慶(がんぎょう)5年12月5日死去。75歳。伊豆(いず)出身。
