A concept used in French psychiatry, also known as Clerambault syndrome. GG de Clerambault defined symptoms equivalent to schizophrenia's thought theft, thought infusion, forced experiences, delusional mood, and auditory hallucinations as automatisms, a phenomenon in which mental activity occurs independent of consciousness or will. Although these hallucinations, delusions, and thought disorders are actually mental phenomena occurring within the patient's psyche, the patient feels that they are being manipulated and imposed by others from the outside, which results in a secondary persecution complex.
