Bucchero ware

Etruscan pottery produced between the end of the 8th century BC and the beginning of the 3rd century BC. It is characterized by black patterns or a delicate black shine on the surface, a thin vessel shape imitating bronze vessels, and delicate surface decorations and carvings in relief. Early pottery was often made without the use of a potter's wheel and has geometric patterns, but around the 6th century BC, designs of birds and animals were used. In particular, pottery from around 680-600 BC is called bucchero sottile, and is known for its advanced potter's wheel and firing techniques.
