The name of a former province in China. Its scope covered the present-day western Sichuan Province and the eastern Tibet Autonomous Region. In 1914, the Chuanbian Special District was established, and in 1928 it was renamed Xikang Province. In 1939, the counties of Ya'an and Xichang, which had belonged to Sichuan Province, were incorporated to officially establish the province. Its capital was Kangding (Dajianlu). In 1950, the area west of the Jinsha River was renamed Changdu District, but in 1955 Xikang Province was abolished and the area east of the Jinsha River was returned to Sichuan Province, and in 1956 the Changdu District was returned to the Tibet Autonomous Region. 中国の旧省名。現在の四川省西部とチベット自治区東部を範囲とした。1914年川辺特別区が設けられ,28年西康省と改められた。39年,四川省に属していた雅安,西昌等の県を編入して,正式に省を設けた。省都は康定(打箭炉(だせんろ))であった。50年金沙江以西地区を昌都地区と改めたが,55年西康省を廃止,金沙江以東地区を四川省に復帰させ,56年昌都地区をチベット自治区に復帰させた。【河野 通博】
