...The English name is hammerhead shark, named after the protruding head. There are nine species in the world, and three in the waters off Japan: the white hammerhead shark Sphyrna zygaena , the scalloped hammerhead S. lewini , and the great hammerhead S. mokarran . The first two are found throughout Japan south of southern Hokkaido, but the latter is found in southern Japan and is rare.
