Lucius Aelius Seianus

Roman politician. Also known as Sejanus. His mother's side was a senatorial aristocrat, but his father was a knight. In AD 14, he became commander of the Praetorian Guard when Emperor Tiberius ascended to the throne. He gathered the Praetorian Guard barracks, which had previously been scattered, on the Viminalis Hill, strengthening his forces. With this as a backdrop, he gradually increased his influence over the emperor. He devised a plan to eliminate the emperor's blood relatives who were close to the throne, and first made an affair with Livira, the wife of the emperor's son Drusus, and used her help to assassinate Drusus. He then divorced his wife Epicata and asked to marry Livira, but the emperor refused (25).
