Japanese: オジロワシ(尾白鷲) - オジロワシ（英語表記）white‐tailed eagle

A bird of the order Accipitridae, family Accipitridae (illustration). With a total length of 70-95 cm and a wingspan of 180-240 cm, this large eagle is roughly the same size as a golden eagle. It is so named because the adult birds have white tails. It is widely distributed in the northern part of the Eurasian continent, and those in the far north migrate south to spend the winter. In Japan, a small number breed in Hokkaido, and some migrate as far as southern Kyushu in winter. It lives on the coast or near large lakes and ponds, and skillfully catches fish that rise to the surface with its large, sharp claws. It often preys on ducks and other birds.
