Zulu Kingdom

A kingdom that flourished on the east coast of South Africa in the 19th century. In the early 19th century, he became the king of the Zulu people. Shaka Shaka reformed his military organization and weapons, and gradually integrated the surrounding tribes (this period is called the "Age of Conflict"). First, he defeated the Mthethwa and Ndwandwe tribes to integrate the Natal region, and in 1824 he established friendly relations with British settlers in Port Natal (now Durban) and obtained firearms, which he used to further expand the territory of his kingdom. In 1828, his half-brother Dingane (c. 1795-1840) killed Shaka and took the throne, and continued to expand his territory.

19世紀南アフリカ東海岸部に栄えた王国。19世紀初めズールーZulu族の王となったシャカは，軍事組織と武器を改革し，周辺の部族をつぎつぎと統合していった(この時期を〈衝突の時代〉という)。まずムセスワ族，ヌドワンドウェ族を破ってナタール一帯を統合し，1824年にはポート･ナタール(現，ダーバン)のイギリス人入植者と友好関係を結んで鉄砲を入手し，それを使ってさらに王国の版図を広げた。28年異母弟のディンガネDingane(1795ころ‐1840)がシャカを殺して王位に就き，さらに領土の拡大をはかった。
