…In the early Hakuba-kai exhibitions, he exhibited plein air-style works, but from the time he was in charge of the cover of the magazine Myojo in 1901, he entered a period of high spirits with a romantic and decorative style, producing his early representative works such as “The Face of Tenpyo” (1902) and “Butterfly” (1904). In 1906, he went to Europe as a student of the Ministry of Education, and instead of visiting R. Collin, who was introduced to him by Kuroda, he studied under Fernand Cormon in Paris and EA Carolus-Duran in Rome from 1908. In the latter half of his study abroad, he produced masterpieces such as “Chochara”, “Black Fan”, and “Pond of Villa d'Este”, which showed his mastery of the full-scale technique of oil painting. After returning to Japan in 1910, he became a professor at an art school, and from 1913 he also taught at the Western painting department of the Kawabata Painting Institute. …
