A tool used by carpenters and stonemasons to draw straight lines. Made from mulberry or zelkova wood. One side is hollowed out like a pot to hold the ink, and the other side is equipped with a wheel with an ink thread wound around it. The ink thread is pulled out by passing it through the ink, and is fixed with a kariko (also called karuko) attached to the end. The ink thread is flicked to mark a straight line. When vermilion ink is used instead of black ink, it is called a vermilion pot, and colored inks such as blue, yellow, and green may also be used.
