Pumi (Pumi) - Pumi (English spelling) Pǔ mǐ zú

Japanese: プミ族(普米族) - プミぞく（英語表記）Pǔ mǐ zú

One of China's minority groups. They mainly live in Lanping County, Yunnan Province, Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County, Weixi County, Ninglang Yi Autonomous County, Yongsheng County, and Muli Tibetan Autonomous County, Sichuan Province, where they coexist with other ethnic groups such as the Naxi, Bai, and Lisu. The population was about 29,700 (1990). The Pumi in Lanping, Lijiang, and Yongsheng call themselves "Puyinmi," while those in Ninglang call themselves "Beim." Both terms mean "white people." The Pumi language belongs to the Qiang branch of the Tibeto-Burman language family, and is said to be very close to the Qiang language.

中国の少数民族の一つ。おもに雲南省蘭坪県，麗江ナシ(納西)族自治県，維西県，寧蒗イ(彝)族自治県，永勝県，四川省木里チベット(蔵)族自治県に居住し，ナシ，ペー(白)，リス(傈僳)等の種族と雑居している。人口は約2万9700(1990)。蘭坪，麗江，永勝のプミ族は〈プインミ〉，寧蒗のプミ族は〈ペイム〉と自称する。いずれも白い人の意味である。プミ語はチベット･ビルマ語系の羌（きよう）語支に属し，羌語に非常に近いという。
