Japanese: 隅寺心経 - すみでらしんぎょう

These are the numerous copies of the Heart Sutra that were passed down to Sumi-dera Temple, namely Kairyuoji Temple in Nara City. They were lost among the general public and are known to be written by Kukai, but they are unrelated to Kukai. They are thought to have been copied during the Nara period as materials for the daily Heart Sutra gatherings held at the Imperial Court, and each volume of the Sutra, with 272 characters per sheet, appears to have been rolled into 10 sheets (for one ten-day period) or 15 sheets (for a half month). Some of them are inscribed with the date "755 (7th year of Tenpyo Shoho)." [Haruo Kurihara]

隅寺すなわち奈良市海竜王寺に伝えられた多数の般若心経のこと。民間に散佚して世に空海筆と称するが，空海とは無関係である。奈良時代におそらく朝廷の日課心経会（しんぎようえ）の料として書写したものと思われ，1巻272字1紙に収まる心経を，10紙(1旬分)あるいは15紙(半月分)ずつ成巻したもののようで，なかには〈天平勝宝7年(755)料〉と記されたものもある。【栗原治夫】
