Nakamichi High School

Japanese: 那珂通高 - なかみちたか

1827‐79 (10th year of the Bunsei era‐12th year of the Meiji era)
A Confucian scholar in the late Edo and early Meiji periods. His pen name was Soin, his common name was Goro, and his pen name was Goro. He was originally called Ebata. He was from Morioka. He was born into a family of doctors in the domain, but went to Edo to study Confucianism. Later, due to certain circumstances, he left the domain and went into hiding in various places, during which time he came into contact with Yoshida Shoin and others and began to embrace the idea of revering the emperor. In 1859 (Ansei 6), he returned to the domain and became a Confucian scholar, and after the Meiji Restoration, he served in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education. He was known for his erudition, and was knowledgeable not only in Confucianism but also in national history and Buddhist scriptures, and was good at waka poetry. Michiyo was an adopted son. 幕末･明治初期の儒者。字は蘇陰，通称は五郎，号は梧楼。初め江帾（えばた）氏と称した。盛岡の人。藩医の家に生まれたが，江戸に出て儒学を学んだ。のちある事情から藩を離れ，諸方に潜伏し，その間に吉田松陰などと交わって尊王思想を抱くようになった。1859年(安政6)藩にもどって儒官となり，明治維新後は大蔵省，文部省に出仕した。博学をもって聞こえ，儒学のほか国史，仏典などに通じ，和歌をよくした。通世は養子。【日野竜夫】
