…A medieval feudal state that has survived to the present day, its central location on the border between the Latin and Germanic worlds gives it a role far greater than its size would suggest, aided by its modern economic strength.

The whole country lies on the inland highlands, and its territory is divided into Essling, which occupies about one third of the northern part of the country, and Gutland, which occupies about two thirds of the southern part. Essling is at an altitude of 450-500m and is part of the highlands that extend from the Eifel Hills in Germany to the Ardennes in Belgium.
