Japanese: ヤブカ(藪蚊) - ヤブカ

In the narrow sense, it is a general term for insects belonging to the Aedes genus of the Diptera family, Culicidae, but generally it is a general term for mosquitoes that bite in grassy areas and mountains. The Aedes genus is the group with the greatest number of species, and is found in tropical regions as far as the Arctic Circle. The Aedes mosquito, A. albopictus , which has distinctive black and white stripes, is the most common of these, and in Japan's Tohoku region and south, it likes to bite people outdoors during the day, regardless of whether they are in urban or rural areas. The Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is famous for transmitting yellow fever, is a closely related species, and both are particularly common in tropical regions and transmit dengue fever.

狭義には双翅目カ科ヤブカ属Aedesに属する昆虫の総称だが，一般には草むら，山野で刺しにくるカの総称。ヤブカ属はもっとも多数の種を含む群で，熱帯はもとより北極圏まで分布する。黒白の縞が特徴的なヒトスジシマカA.albopictusはなかでもふつうで，日本の東北地方以南では都市，農山村の別をとわず昼間屋外で好んで人を刺す。黄熱病の伝播をするので有名なネッタイシマカA.aegyptiもこの近縁種で，ともに熱帯地にはとくに多く，デング熱を媒介する。
