1813‐40 Russian thinker and poet. A leading figure in the philosophy research group formed in 1831 by students at Moscow University. Participants included Belinsky, Bakunin, KS Aksakov, Katkov, and many other famous Russian figures. He contributed to the formation of Enlightenment thought that criticized the old Russian system, primarily by studying German classical philosophy such as Schelling, Kant, Fichte, and Hegel.
