Born on December 2, 1839. Son of Matsudaira Yorihiro, lord of Takamatsu Domain in Sanuki. Cousin of Tokugawa Yoshinobu. Adopted by Okubo Tadanao. In 1858, he became the 2nd and 9th lord of the Okubo family, lord of Odawara Domain in Sagami (Kanagawa Prefecture). Served as a court official and Kofu castle lord. He was confined to his home for life for the crime of murdering a dozen military inspectors of the new government army, and handed over the family headship to his adopted son Tadayoshi with a reduction of 38,000 koku. After being pardoned, he was reinstated as a viscount. Died on August 10, 1897. Age 57. His name is also known as "Tadaaya."
