An external combustion engine in which gas in a cylinder is heated from the outside, and the work of gas expansion is converted into mechanical work by a piston. It was patented by R. Stirling of Scotland in 1816. It has features such as the ability to use a variety of fuels, low noise and vibration, and easy exhaust gas purification. Development is underway in Japan, the United States, Sweden, and other countries, but it has not yet been put to practical use. → Related topics Internal combustion engines | Heat engines Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
