A medieval village in Nukata County, Mikawa Province. It is identified with the area from Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture to Nukata Town, Nukata County (present Okazaki City). In 1377, it was divided into southern and northern parts by the Muromachi Shogunate's ryosho, with 18 members in the southern part and 24 in the northern part. The public land totaled 35 cho 8 tan, and the total annual tax, including lodging land rent, was 630 kan 873 mon. In 1380, it was donated by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu as a ryosho for the construction of the Western Temple of Toji Temple, and in 1391, the annual tax of 200 kan mon was restored to the Shogunate's ryosho and was paid to Ise Sadayuki. It has also been a key point along the Tokaido since ancient times, and in 1432, the monk Gyocho, who accompanied Shogun Ashikaga Yoshinori on his journey to Suruga, wrote in his "Land of Fuji" that "there is no greater liveliness than at noon at an inn in the mountains." When Fujikawa (now Okazaki City) was designated as a post station on the Tokaido in 1601, the station lost its function as a post station. In Maigi, there is the ruins of Yamanaka Castle, the base of the Saigo clan and the Matsudaira clan of Okazaki. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
